Dim Sum is a Chinese traditional food. It is a very popular dishes among all others. Normally, it is taken in the morning as breakfast or in afternoon as lunch. In most of the restaurants, it is served from morning till tea time. It is originated from Guangdong region. As Hong Kong is nearby and many people are associated directly or indirectly with this taste and their culture. Therefore, this traditional dish is equally popular in Hong Kong as well.

What is dim sum?

Dim sum is made with flour dough filled with various fillings. It can be cooked in many ways such as steamed, fried, deep fried, etc.

Dumplings are one of the types of dim sum. The common types of Chinese dumplings are xiao long bao, bao zi, jiao zi, har gow, guo tie, siu mai, ham sui gok, wontons, tang yuan, sheng jian bao, zong zi and many more.

They can come in different fillings, sizes and shapes and is one of the easiest to make at home during family gathering in festival seasons. It is many served in the traditional type Chinese restaurants.

There are many types of Dim Sum available, out of them some are very popular based on people order frequently from the restaurant.

Shrimp Dumpling:

Shrimp dumpling is also known as ‘har gow’, it is one of the most popular dishes from the Dim Sum menu in Hong Kong. 

It is made with Shrimp inside and covered with the thin skin and steamed like a Momo which is a popular Nepalese food. It can be taken with chili sauce .

Spring Rolls:

It is like a western style Spring Roll, which is very popular in the Chinese culture. It is usually taken during the morning and afternoon.

There are two types; one is the vegetarian and other one is non-veg. It is usually in rectangular shape, which is made by deeply frying it in the oil. Once it is ready, you can take it with the sauce.

This is my and my family’s favorite dish. It is a sweet dish made with custard, can be solid or semi liquids. This is typically very popular and available in almost every Dim Sum restaurants.

Mango Pudding:

There are 100s of pudding types are available in the Chinese menus. For example, milk, coconut and many more types of pudding. My favorite is mango pudding. It is also one of the most popular dessert available.

Egg tart is another popular dim sum. It is a custard filling with egg and commonly available at different restaurants or local shops.

Siu Mai:

It is like a steam shrimp, where one place is wrapped half at the edge. It is a absolutely very tasty food among all. My children love Siu Mai the most any other food available on the menu.
