Tai Lam Country Park Sham Tseng Trial

Tai Lam Country Park is a big area in Sham Tseng. The trail is around 9 km, a suitable trail to try out during any month of the year for hiking. Some parts of the road for driving might be very small in size, as most of the time, two cars can hardly cross. Yet the route is very beautiful with hills, lakes, and other natural views. It is a good place for photography.

Journey Starting Point:

The Journey starts from Sham Tseng Royal Sea Crest by proceeding towards a small road just inclining up the hiking area. Then, there are some small villages type of houses which you will come across. Continue walking and in the next 5- 7 minutes, you will reach the main place where the hike actually begins. During the stepping up Central side as well as MRT stations are clearly visible.

BBQ and Picnic area:

After around a 20-25 minute short hill walk, there were some picnics as well as a barbecue open space area. My family and I decided to have our family picnic by maintaining distance and all the precautions.
As we had taken some food, drinks, and snacks for our journey. We enjoyed eating, clicking pictures, and talking. We spent about 6 hours at the picnic spot. The weather was also warm and perfect during winter, we all loved the timing and the foods we have taken with us.

Facilities available:

Toilet and water facility:

The toilet and drinking water facility were available at all times, many people even washed their cars which is not permitted. Toilet facilities with dryers, hand sanitizers, and tissue paper were there in many different locations making it convenient for the hikers. This is very important as people usually spend their whole day there so the toilet and water facility is very important.

BBQ spots:

BBQ spots were available however, if wanted to buy anything then you will have to go back down as there were no shops. The best way would be to buy all the items in the beginning and then get up to the spot by either taxi, Uber, or private car as there would be no need to carry the heavy items.

Shelters for picnic spots:

Apart from BBQ areas, there are also some picnic spots with shelter and seating areas. It is perfect for a small family picnic.

You can also hike up there on the trail called Tai Tong Nature Trail. It is a moderate or medium-level hiking trail. It’s best to hike up there during the autumn or spring season as the weather is neither too cold nor hot. For more information please visit

Car park ( not allocated):

There is no assigned parking area, but you can park the car without any hassle since some of the places have spaces for parking cars before the hiking area begins.
